October 8, 2025, Fall Gathering
For Community Connections, a UCSC Friends group, the Fall Gathering is a time to sign up for one or more of 17 interest groups, get reacquainted with old friends, meet new members, eat lunch, enjoy the UCSC Arboretum, and hear the voices of Fiat Musica.
The choral group Fiat Musica is led by Emily Sinclair, herself a performing soprano who holds a doctorate in musical arts with a specialty in vocal performance and pedagogy. At UCSC she mentors students, focusing on inclusivity and underrepresented composers. Emily’s work reflects a deep commitment to building community through music.
Our newly designed website went live on October 7 when the WCMS Cascade platform was migrated to WordPress. We hope it is easy for members to use and welcome feedback. Contact Hazel Powell at hapowell@ucsc.edu .
President Linda Koval conducted the meeting and encouraged members to take a role in helping with leadership. There are openings on the board for coordinating publicity, fundraising, photography or leading a walking group or an excursion group or a Westside lunch group.
- In Memoriam: Chancellor Emeritus Karl PisterYou may have seen the news that UCSC’s Chancellor Emeritus Karl Pister passed away recently at age 96. Chancellor Pister and his wife, Rita, made enormous contributions to UCSC.
