PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Members and Guests:
As we move into fall, I am delighted to update everyone on how Community Connections (CC) is coming along. I am hoping that everyone has had some time to relax, bike, swim, garden, read and enjoy life over the summer.
Last Wednesday the CC Board of Directors met to discuss the plans for 2023-2024. Sally Lester, our Treasurer, assured us that we are on firm ground financially, and Kerrie McCaffrey, our Interest Group Coordinator, shared new plans for seating at the Arboretum for our Fall Gathering on October 4, 2023 at 11:00am. Interest Groups and a few of the group leaders will highlight benefits of joining. Our Board will provide the potluck lunch. Please bring your own plate, tableware and napkin to limit our garbage and be better environmental stewards. Please come and bring a friend.
First VP’s Sonja Reetz and Donna Cavaille announced speakers Kednel Jean, Director, and Brooks Schmidt from the UCSC Basic Needs Program for the meeting on November 1st at 11:30 a.m. The Basic Needs Program assists students and would welcome your contributions of non-perishable food, personal care items, or gift cards. Please bring these to the November meeting and we will use them as table decorations. You will receive a specific list of items to bring on November 1st for your donation.
At our January 10, 2024 meeting, we will be privileged to meet Kevin Domby, the new UCSC Chief of Police. He will be speaking about his journey from being an art teacher to his current position. It should be fascinating.
